Presenter Bio

Richard Muhl began his career at age 17 in the Australian Navy, where he served for 11 years as an Electronic Systems Technician working on weapons radar and missile systems, primarily aboard seagoing vessels. Toward the end of his naval service, he completed Air Force training in metrology and spent two years repairing and calibrating electronic test instruments.

Following his military career, Richard spent 14 years with Kodak Australasia as Equipment Service Manager for Western Australia, South Australia, and the Northern Territory, overseeing regional service operations. He entered the coffee industry 19 years ago with Five Senses Coffee, where he was responsible for building a national service department to support a portfolio of top-tier equipment brands.

Over the past decade, Richard has focused exclusively on coffee roasting equipment and now provides sales and technical support for Giesen Coffee Roasters. In his current role, he applies his Type B gas training and industrial electronics qualifications to the installation, maintenance, and modification of coffee roasters throughout Australia.

Richard has served as Chair of the SCA Coffee Technicians Guild, as an ex-officio member of the SCA Board of Directors, and as a content contributor to the SCA Technicians Education curriculum. He currently serves as an Authorised SCA Trainer (AST) for the SCA Technicians Program.
