Luiz Severo Da Silva Junior is a chemical engineer and a full professor at the State University of Feira de Santana (UEFS) in Bahia, Brazil. He also leads international scientific dissemination as the editor-in-chief of the Brazilian Journal of Technology. Holding both a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Food Science, Severo successfully bridges the gap between rigorous science and the specialty coffee industry by combining his academic research with hands-on expertise as a trained barista. As a leading professional in food safety and the thermal dynamics of byproducts, his work focuses on chemical degradation kinetics, quality control, and advanced analytical characterization using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Gas Chromatography (GC). Through specialized consulting and science-based practices, he works to strengthen the specialty coffee supply chain, elevating both bean quality and its chemical integrity.
